THERE will be no extra-time at the upcoming Fifa U17 World Cup in Mexico, Times Sport has learnt.

This was confirmed by Fifa Secretary General Valcke Jerome. This means that in case of a draw after normal time, the tie will be decided on penalty kicks.

The decision was reached because of unfriendly playing conditions.

Medical experts warned that playing under high altitudes (2400m) for 120 minutes would lead to high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) and high altitude cerebral edema (HACE).

“At extreme altitudes, sleeping becomes very difficult, digesting food is near-impossible, and the risk of HAPE or HACE increases greatly,” a statement from Fifa read in part.

The Junior Wasps are booked at La Hoya hotel until Wednesday when they relocate to Fiesta. The tournament kicks off this Saturday.
