Our judges should be exemplary

Editor, I have read disturbing reports from different media outlets recently implicating some of our learned friends in bribery scandals. Some stories suggest that lawyers at times try to bribe our judges to subvert the course of justice. This is an unfortunate trend since we all know that judges are suppossed to exhibit the highest level of integrity while dispensing justice. It’s true that the majority of the lawyers are honest and credible. However, those tainting our justice system must be exposed and punished. The fact that these judges or lawyers involved in the bribery have often been exposed means that Rwandans do not cordon this evil practice. Like officials from the Supreme Court emphasised recently, the judiciary is supposed to put service to the people first, instead of advancing their own interests. Impartiality is one of the signs of a good justice system. It should, therefore, be upheld to enable Rwandans are at liberty to go to court whenever they have any grievances. John IramuryemyaKigali
