THE Confederation of African Volleyball Federation President Amr Elwani has promised to front the Genocide Memorial tournament’s inclusion on the CAVB annual calendar.
Elwani, who recently concluded a four-day visit in the country, told Times Sport that he supports Rwanda’s cause but the procedures have to be followed.
“First of all I and the volleyball community in the world condemn what happened in Rwanda and sympathize with the victims.
I support Rwanda’s request to include the tournament on the CAVB calendar but they need to apply, with the support of the Government and the General Assembly will make a decision,” Elwani, who is also the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Vice President said.
The Genocide Memorial volleyball tournament is held annually in memory of volleyball players, coaches, referees, administrators and fans who were killed in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The tourney was first held in 1998 and APR recently won a record 7th title after beating KVC in the final.
