DEFENDING champions APR are eager to get back to winning ways when they take on minnows Musanze in the Primus National Football League this afternoon at Mumena stadium.

Last week, the army side’s 14-match winning streak was surprisingly halted by AS Kigali after a 1-0 defeat.

And with injuries to several key players, Ernie Brandts is not exactly in the comfort zone ahead of today’s clash.

Malawi international Victor Nyirenda and Didier Kapet have thigh injuries, Haruna Niyonzima has a knee injury, Kabange and Mbuyu Twite are away for family reasons while Jean Claude Iranzi is suspended.

“We are missing several key players so that is a big blow for us but we are confident about winning the game,” the Dutchman said.

His counterpart Antoine Rutsindura is also optimistic about Musanze’s chances. “AS Kigali did it last week so we can also do it. We suffered a premature exit in the Peace Cup but we know that we can still do well at this level,” he said.

Elsewhere, AS Kigali entertains Police at Kigali Regional Stadium while Marine battle Etincelles in Rubavu. A win for Police will send them into second position ahead of Sunday’s clash between SC Kiyovu and AS Muhanga.

Rayon Sport will also be in action against La Jeunesse while Police stands in third place with 29 points.

AS Muhanga and Mukura are on the verge of being relegated to second division after managing 10 and 8 points respectively.
