Dear Editor,Reference is made to articles published in your paper andwritten by Kitty Llewellyn on March 2nd 2008 as well asthat by Kabona Esiara on 6th March 2008. In their articles, these two journalists kept referring toBCR as the first bank to provide mortgages in the country.This is not factual. Rwanda Housing Bank (formerly Caisse Hypothécaire duRwanda) has been providing mortgages ever since itscreation in 1975. As a matter of fact, we are a specializedHousing Finance Institution and our major business isproviding long-term finance for home construction, purchaseor improvement.
