HIGHLY billed as the match of the tournament, the Rwanda-Kenya game yesterday lived up to the hype. Although the national side won by three sets to nil, the score did not tell the whole picture.
Rwanda won the first set narrowly (25-23) and the second one was close (25-22) but in the third set, the national side buoyed by a fully packed crowd put in a spirited performance that shocked the Kenyans into submission.
Coach Paul Bitok attributed the all important win to how well the players played against the Kenyans’ weakness.
“We knew that they are poor at reception so we made sure that our serves were very strong. “The Kenyan said.
Uganda now stands in Rwanda’s path as the national side look for a win that will guarantee them a place in the All Africa Games that will take place in Maputo-Mozambique in September.
In the other game that had taken place earlier, Uganda needed a tie break to overcome a resilient Burundi side.
The tournament winds up this evening when Burundi takes on Kenya and Rwanda plays Uganda.
