GATSIBO – Ninety-two cows were recently donated by the World Vision (WV) Rwanda as part of the ongoing national cattle stocking programme, known as Girinka (One cow per poor family).
The cows, worth 63million, were given to needy households in the sectors of Kabarore, Rugarama and Gitoki in Gatsibo District, and Karangazi Sector in Nyagatare District.
Esperance Uwimpuhwe, Gatsibo district vice Mayor in charge of Social affairs, asked beneficiaries to look after the cows properly in order to overcome poverty.
“These cows will not only facilitate you to get out of poverty, but will also give you a solid foundation to build much better future,” she said.
According to World Vision officials, the donation was given in collaboration with Gatsibo district, geared at fighting malnutrition among children.
Fred Ntakirutinka of World Vision Rwanda said the organisation will donate more cattle in the future.
“It is a small donation but more cows are coming. The cows we donated are yet to deliver but we request every beneficiary to pass on young one to your neighbour,” he said.
