EAC needs transparent leaders

Editor,I read in yesterday’s issue of The NewTimes, where EAC’s Ambassador Juma Mwapachu was quoted backing Rwanda and Burundi to have administrative capacity to provide the next Secretary General of the bloc. In the past, some regional leaders through the media suggested that Rwanda and Burundi were not ready for this post.

Honestly, Rwanda has capable leaders. President Paul Kagame has been and he is still being admired by other world leaders because of his clean leadership and has been able to transform his country just sixteen years after the 1994 Genocide against  the Tutsi.

Rwanda has also many leaders who are occupying international posts. A case in point is Donald Kaberuka, a Rwandan economist and current president of the African Development Bank.

Also, a Rwandan, presently, holds the position of Deputy Secretary General of the EAC.  Anybody who says Rwanda cannot provide capable Secretary General is just biased.
