KARONGI —Two motorcycles that were stolen in Karongi District, last month, were recovered three days ago in Muhanga District, Southern Province.

According to police, the motorcycles which belong to the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA), had been stolen by Japheth Uwizeyimana, a guard attached to Top Security services.

“After the incident, we arrested the suspect and his relatives later revealed the whereabouts of the motorcycles. They were found hidden at his friend’s home,” a police officer said.

Yesterday, Claudine Umunyaneza, the owner of the house in which the motorcycles were found, denied any involvement.

“One night, my husband, brought the motorcycles and told me that he had bought them. I had no idea that they had been stolen until the police came searching,” Umunyaneza said.

Sources say that Umunyaneza’s husband, one Emmanuel Habyarimana, is currently on the run in Ngororero District where he has a part-time job.

Theoneste Munyaneza, the team leader of Top Security guards in Karongi District, explained that the company has undertaken measures to identify and expel rogue staff.
“We have also decided not to be deploying a single guard at a particular workstation,” he said.
