HUYE – A man who allegedly killed two people and wounded another in Simbi Sector has been arrested and detained at Ngoma Police Station in Huye District.
Damascene Ruzima, 52, was arrested on Tuesday after reportedly committing the gruesome murder. The deceased were identified as Elina Uzabakiriho, his neighbor’s wife, and Delphine Mukamurenzi, his daughter.
Gloriose Mukandamira, his own wife, was seriously wounded and is currently admitted at Butare University Teaching Hospital (CHUB).
The deceased’s husband, Viateur Nzabandora, told The New Times that he was working in his field when he received information that his wife had been killed. He recalled that he had seen Ruzima with a blood-soaked machete moments earlier.
“It was around 9a.m when one of my children rushed to me crying. She told me that her mother (Uzabakiriho) had been killed. I, instantly, ran to where she was working, near our house, only to find her body lying in a sorghum field, with deep cuts on the head, face, neck and chest,” Nzabandora narrated.
It was after killing Uzabakiriho that the suspect headed to the other victims.
According to Nzabandora, there were no serious wrangles between his family and Ruzima. He, however, reckons Ruzima could have nursed a grudge after Nzabandora testified against him in a Genocide case.
Ruzima was jailed for 12 in connection to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Though investigations into the matter continue, security sources suspect the cause of the crime to be family wrangles.
