Kamali vows to spur Silverbacks in Hong Kong
Silverbacks captain Vincent Kamali wants to guide the national team to success at the forthcoming Hong Kong 10s that’s scheduled to run from March 22 to April 1.
The 24-year center forward was recently named captain after former captain Juma Adams Mugabo’s many injury woes.
And the Buffaloes captain is relishing the opportunity to leading the team as they hunt for the top prize in the prestigious Hong Kong 10s tournament.
“Our main target is to become the first rugby team to return back with a trophy. The team has trained hard and we are in great shape for the tournament,” Kamali said.
Meanwhile, Juma Adams Mugabo has given coach Gerald Nsenga a major boost after overcoming a shoulder injury in time for the tournament. The national rugby team will leave for Hong Kong on Saturday looking to better their performance of last year were they reached the plate final.
During their debut last year, the team garnered huge support from the rugby fraternity after putting in a spirited display after winning four of their six group matches to reach the plate final.
Mugabo was the start performer with eight tries to finish as the second highest scorer. Silverbacks prospect Moise Habumugisha also scooped the tournament’s young player award.
In the plate final, Rwanda lost 0-7 against the ARC All-Stars, which had a selection of players from Hong Kong, New Zealand and South Africa.
