RWANDA’s crew of Davite Giancarlo and Sylvia Vindevogel will leave the ramp fourth in the Toyota Zimbabwe Challenge Rally which paces off today with a super special stage at rally headquarters, Rainbow Towers in Harare.
Giancarlo, in a Subaru N4, will chase two-time Africa champion Muna Singh (Zambia), reigning African champion Jamie Whyte (Zimbabwe) and three-time Zimbabwe Challenge winner Conrad Rautenbach in that order.
Rautenbach is driving a Ford Fiesta S2000 while Singh and Whyte have stuck with their Subaru Imprezas.
Other drivers in contention include 2009 winner Chase Attwell, Michelle Yorke, Ronald Parsell, Gary Kirk, Shirwin Evans, Big Chitima and Stuart Haddon among others.
The race is the opening round on the 2011 Africa Rally Championship (ARC). Other rallies will be held in Zambia, South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and Madagascar.
Day 2 will see drivers run five competitive sections. The same route will be driven in reverse on Day 3 (Sunday).
Last year, Giancarlo finished second on the ARC charts with 104 points, 76 behind Whyte.
