RWANDA’s eight-team man for next week’s World Cross Country Championship in Punta Umbria, Spain, is expected to relocate to the Northern Province, this afternoon.
According to the Secretary General of the local athletics federation (RAF), Constantine Twajamahoro, the team will train in the hilly terrains of Musanze district as a way of acclimatizing to conditions which could be very familiar to those in Punta Umbria.
“It is important that they (athletes) get acclimatized to high altitude conditions,” the official stressed. After missing out in 2009 and 2010, Rwanda wants to make an impact this year.
The eight-man team includes two-time Olympian Epiphanie Nyirabarame, Sylvain Rukundo, Jean Baptista Simuceka, Godfrey Rutayisire, Pierre Mvuyekure and Gervais Hakizimana, Claudette Mukasakindi and Jacqueline Murekatete.
Mukasakindi is training in Italy while Hakizimana is in France. The pair will meet their colleagues in Spain.
