Editor,

It was sad to read in yesterday’s issue of The NewTimes of yesterday that a 12-year old girl was found dead the Laico Umubano Hotel pool.

It’s indeed shocking to hear that the body of this girl, Elsa Niyitegeka was discovered two days after her demise. I think there was carelessness on the part of the trainer and hotel management.

Like the deceased’s mother put it, what puzzles many is how a body can stay for two days in a swimming pool used on a daily basis, without being noticed.

Remember, this pool has a trainer who is supposed to help swimmers in a case of emergence.

Though, I don’t want to apportion blame now but I feel the management must explain more. The death should be also a warning to many parents who send their children to swim alone. The hotel management has repeatedly said it is not responsible for the death.

Who is to blame then? Why did they agree to pay hospital and autopsy bills any way? Police should investigate more and get to the root cause of the matter.
