The Belgian Minister of Foreign Trade, Benoit Cerexhe, has commended the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), for fostering the unity of Rwandan people, something, he said, has been vital in rebuilding the country after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The Minister was speaking at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre. Cerexhe on his first visit to Rwanda, is heading a delegation of entrepreneurs from Belgian corporations looking to invest in the country.
“What happened in this country in 1994, in regard to what I have seen at this centre, comparing it to how people are living and working together today, it’s a great job done to unite them,” Cerexhe said.
He added that memorial centres are equally important in giving the true picture to the younger generations.
The delegation proceeded to Camp Kigali, where 10 Belgian officers serving under UN mission were killed during the Genocide.
