I wish to react to a story that appeared in yesterday’s issue of The NewTimes where Edgar Hodari, the Rubavu Intermediate Court President appealed to judges to exhibit high level of integrity while settling cases.
Judges and all practicing lawyers are the custodian of the law and must ensure that the interests of people are taken care of without favoritism.
There have been reports in the past where lawyers who are supposed to ensure the rule of law, try to bribe the judges so that they can bend the law to favor their clients.
Some lawyers have been convicted and sentenced to prison after evidence was adduced beyond reasonable doubt, that they solicited bribes. This is shameful and like Hodari put it, there is no room for corrupt-minded people in Rwanda.
