NYAGATARE - University staff and students should join the anticorruption drive, judicial officials say.
Nyagatare Intermediate Court president, John Byakatonda, made the call while meeting with none teaching and teaching staff and students of Umutara Polytechnic University, on Wednesday.
The meeting was in line with the ongoing anti-corruption drive in courts, themed: The court; ‘a corruption free square.’
Byakatonda said there have been solid steps taken to fight corruption in courts and students’ contribution is crucial to uproot the vice.
“This week long activity was organized after the Supreme Court realised that some court officials were involved in corruption. We have stepped up measures to make Nyagatare court a ‘corruption free zone’ and we need your help in achieving this,” he appealed.
The University students, under their ‘anti-corruption club’ are being encouraged to act as whistleblowers.
“I urge you to report any judge and other court officials who may be involved in corruption. This will make Nyagatare court a free-corruption court,” Byakatonda asked students.
He added that by fighting corruption, the students would be paving a brighter future since they are the future leaders of the country.
