South Africa say hosting 2015 will maintain World Cup momentum
SOUTH AFRICA and Morocco are the only candidates bidding to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015 and 2017.
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) will make the decision during today’s meeting in DRC. The meeting coincides with the African Super Cup between Champions League winners TP Mazembe and the holders of the Confederation Cup, FUS Rabat.
Both South Africa and Morocco have made it clear that they would prefer to host the 2015 tournament.
South African Football Association (Safa) president Kirsten Nematandani stated the country wanted to “sustain some of the momentum from hosting the World Cup”.
Morocco said that it wanted to host the Nations Cup sooner rather than later to help the country’s football move towards professionalism.
Both countries will make a presentation to the Caf executive committee before the decision is made.
