Opts to coach Congolese club Lupopo
RAOUL Shungu will not be joining Rayon Sport any time soon after agreeing terms with DRC club St.Eloi Lupopo, Ostine Arinaitwe reports.
After taking over Rayon Sport last month, local media mogul Albert Rudatsimburwa promised among other things to lure Shungu back to the club but things have not gone as planned.
Speaking to Times Sport yesterday, the Blues’ Secretary General Olivier Gakwaya confirmed that the Congolese tactician had deliberately refused to fly to Kigali for talks because he was already in talks with Lupopo.
“He kept postponing his trip to Kigali until we found out that he had actually started work with Lupopo,” Gakwaya said, adding that the club is now looking elsewhere.
Till date, Shungu is still considered to be Rayon’s most successful coach after guiding the club to four league titles (1997, 1998, 2002 and 2004) and one Cecafa Club Championship (1998).
