THE National University of Rwanda, UNR has started preparations for this year’s CAVB Club Championship to be held in Morocco.
The varsity side earned the rights to represent the country after winning last year’s league title. After three trophy-less years, UNR ended that drought after edging champions APR on average point-difference.
They then sealed a double after lifting the season ending Carre ‘d’AS title.
UNR head coach Fidele Nyirimana yesterday said that the team has regrouped ahead of what is expected to be a tough season.
“We are not only focusing on the Africa Club Championship but on the league and other domestic competitions as well,” Nyirimana, who is also a former national team player, said.
In a bid to put in a spirited fight in Morocco, Nyirimana is expected to strengthen the side with three new signings.
“This is a very big tournament so we have to strengthen our side to have a good chance,” he added.
Meanwhile, one of the team’s experienced players Vincent Nsabimana has left the club for greener pastures.
It is said that the attacker has moved to Libya to play semi-professional volleyball with an option of turning into a full pro.
