I wish to respond to your article titled “Clergyman arrested for frustrating government policies” in yesterday’s issue. Many religious leaders will agree that the gospel of God does not, in any way, contradict people’s aspirations.
I think Father Emile Nsengiyunva was not even reading his Bible thoroughly, because the book of God is very categorical on the relationship between governments and the church.
The Bible says a religious leader should respect government policies, and it’s on this basis, that God blesses them. All leaders, including politicians, are ordained by God.
So, father Nsengiyunva’s move to undermine government policies aimed at improving the lives of ordinary citizens is unfortunate and highly careless.
For example, family planning campaigns are healthy and have helped many societies. His arrest, I think, will be a warning to other religious leaders who try to mislead their followers.
