The Police has arrested three people in connection with the murder of a businessman in Kayonza District.

Epaphrodite Buregeya, 30 a resident of Akayebe cell in Rwinkwavu sector, was shot dead on Wednesday evening.
At around 8.30 pm, the deceased was tricked out of his house in Gihinga village, by people pretending to be visitors, who later turned a gun on him and shot him dead.

Philomena Bankundiye the Executive Secretary of Rwinkwavu Sector, confirmed the death of the businessman, and vowed to beef up security.

She said that three suspects Justin Hitimana, Emmanuel Bakundimana and Anaclet Mujumba are held at Kabarondo and Rwinkwavu police stations.

“The motive of the cold blood murder is not yet known...we have suspects and we shall soon know why the man was killed,” she said.

“We are going to be vigilant during this festive season. Drinking hours will be limited and night patrols will be strengthened”.

Xavier Ndahayo, Gihigi village leader, lamented the death of their prominent businessman.

He blamed the death on some village hooligans, who drink themselves silly and possibly possess arms.

“One of the suspects we have in custody is a known thug. He could be having a gun hidden somewhere, which he picks when he wants to commit crimes like this one,” he said.

A neighbour, who was only identified as Karekezi, said that thugs take the advantage of the sector’s proximity to Akagera National Park, to hide weapons in bush.
