Other countries should take a leaf from France

Editor, I read with excitement the story “France Charges FDLR leader with Genocide”-The Newtimes, December, 23. This is a good gesture taken by French judges. Many people especially senior leaders in Habyarimana’s genocidal regime escaped into exile after committing the atrocities in Rwanda. Many have changed their names and have managed to get away with crime.

Editor,

I read with excitement the story “France Charges FDLR leader with Genocide”-The Newtimes, December, 23. This is a good gesture taken by French judges. Many people especially senior leaders in Habyarimana’s genocidal regime escaped into exile after committing the atrocities in Rwanda. Many have changed their names and have managed to get away with crime.

These suspects are also rich and have been using money to buy protection. I commend the French judiciary for this bold stand. It shows onething. nobody will shield those who participated in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Surprisingly, some of the genocide suspects are hiding in Africa yet the countries have a moral obligation to cooperate with Rwanda and arrest these fugitives.

But no matter how long it takes, I am convinced that one day, justice will prevail and the suspects will have their day in court.
