RAOUL Shungu has given Rayon Sport two weeks to come good on talks of taking him on as club manager.
Since the club’s takeover by local media mogul Albert
Rudatsimburwa, rumours have been rife that the former Blues’ tactician is set to return to the club.
In his first press briefing after assuming control of the Blues, Rudatsimburwa promised among other things to entice the Congolese tactician back to the club. However going by Shungu’s comments recently, little progress has been made to that effect.
“I’m still waiting for Rayon to iron out my travel arrangements so that I can fly to Kigali and meet Rudatsimburwa,” the former AS Vita Club coach said adding that he has received offers from Gabon, Cameroon, Tanzania and Congo Brazzaville but has put them on hold because he loves Rayon Sport.
“But if nothing concrete comes up in the next two weeks, I will consider my other options.”
Shungu’s role will be to work closely with Rayon head coach Emmanuel Ruremesha.
To date, Shungu stands out as the Blues’ most successful coach after guiding the club to four league titles (1997, 1998, 2002 and 2004) and one Cecafa Club Championship (1998).
The club has not won silverware since 2004.
