MUHANGA - All districts will soon establish Community Hygiene Clubs and Committees to fight diseases caused by poor hygiene and sanitation in communities, an official has said.
Zachary Bigirimana, an official of the Community Based Environmental Health Programme (CBEHP), explained that the clubs will be part of an integrated and participatory action plan to stem diseases from poor sanitation.
Bigirimana was addressing district officials from the Eastern and Southern provinces, during two-day workshop to chart ways of combating sanitation related diseases.
“There is need to empower communities and collaborate with residents and local leaders in implementing the national strategy of preventing such preventable diseases,” he said.
The training, held at St. Kizito Kabgayi centre, attracted several Vice Mayors in- charge of social affairs, district health officers and health experts.
The officials said that the programmes will boost the general hygiene and put to use donor money which is allocated to sanitation.
