Editor,

Please allow me to express my appreciation to the First Lady ,Jeannette Kagame, for the work she is doing towards protecting children and women against HIV/AIDS.

This week, the First Lady launched a four-year action plan to address gender inequalities and human rights violations that put women and girls at risk of HIV infection; a plan that was developed by the National Aids Control Commission (CNLS) in partnership with other stakeholders and launched at Parliament.

In this day and age, though the world is progressing fast, violation of women and children’s rights continue to hamper the development of these two groups yet they are the most vulnerable in the society.

At the launch of the action plan, The First Lady said that with this plan, the government was working towards ensuring that women and girls, not only have the knowledge and power to protect themselves, but also take their rightful place as advocates, leaders and policy makers who drive change.

We are all aware that women are the backbone of a nation and children are the future. Let each and everyone of us work hard to promote their advancement in life. This, should not be an activity that is left to any particular group but should be a collective effort on each citizen’s part.
