Fifa international friendly
Malawi vs Rwanda
AMAVUBI players will have a week of non-residential training before their November 17 international friendly against Malawi in Lilongwe.
The local football governing body, Ferwafa made the confirmation yesterday indicating that the team would regroup early next week before heading to Lilongwe next Sunday.
“Players will be concurrently training with Amavubi head coach Sellas Tetteh and their respective clubs,” Ferwafa’s CEO Jules Kalisa confirmed.
In last month’s Fifa rankings, Rwanda dropped six places to 118 following her poor start in the 2012 Nations Cup qualifiers were she suffered identical 0-3 defeats against Ivory Coast and Benin in Group H.
Malawi is not a very new opponent for Amavubi. Last year, the wasps were rendered harmless after back to back defeats against the Flames in the build-up to the crunch 2010 Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Zambia.
So Sellas Tetteh has an idea of the task that lies ahead for his short of confidence side.
The November 17 tie is also a good platform for this year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup slated to run from November 21 to December 5 in Dar es Salaam.
Initially, Amavubi were supposed to enter camp on November 15 but with the friendly match on cards, the camp has been brought forward to give Tetteh enough time to work with the team.
With a Fifa ranking of 84, 34 places clear of Rwanda; Kalisa believes Malawi present a good test for the Wasps ahead of the Challenge Cup.
