Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS through sports

Editor,

As holidays approach, I would like to bring up the issue of keeping students busy in Sports activities. School-going children who are kept active during holidays are less likely to get involved in idle and disorderly activities that hamper their development such as drinking, smoking, drug abuse as well as joining the wrong cliques.

However, by getting involved in sports activities they can easily be mobilized to and made aware of the dangers of HIV/AIDS while at the same time exploiting the opportunity to showcase their talent. Sports is probably amongst the best avenues of sending the message about HIV/AIDS since several holiday makers willingly turn up in huge numbers to play.

I, therefore, call upon responsible stakeholders and organizations that involved with the youth to grab this holiday opportunity to teach youth about the real dangers of HIV/AIDS.
