NATIONAL University of Rwanda (UNR) volleyball coach Fidèle Nyirimana has set his sights on landing this year’s Carré d’As trophy slated for this weekend.
The varsity side last won a trophy in 2007 and Nyirimana who was a coach player at the time is eager to end the two-year drought.
Nyirimana, a former national team libero, believes the team has enough mental strength to halt APR’s monotony for the last two years.
“On a whole, it has been a good year for the boys and we still have a good chance of winning the league,” he said ahead of last evening’s league decider with Gisenyi College.
“The players have given everything and proved that they can match APR in all departments,” he added. The Carré d’As tournament merges the top four clubs in the league.
Reigning champions APR, Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC), UNR and Gisenyi College will compete in the men’s fray while the ladies category pits new league champions Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) against UNR, APR and Ruhango.
Soras are the tournament sponsors.
