WHILE Adrien Niyonshuti failed to challenge for a medal in yesterday’s 40km individual time-trial race, he put in a promising display after finishing inside the top 20.
The South African based rider clocked 55 minutes, 27 seconds and five micro-seconds to finish 19th out of 61 riders.
Scotland’s David Millar won the race in a time of 47 minutes, 18 seconds and 66 micro seconds while England’s Alex Dowsett and Luke Durbridge of Australia came in second and third place with times of 48.13.48 and 48.32.90 respectively.
Millar, 33, who was suspended in 2006 for using a banned drug EPO, also won bronze in Sunday’s road race.
Niyonshuti was the fourth best rider on the continent behind South Africa’s Thomson Robert (15th), Mauritius’s Yannick Lincoln (16th) and Erik Hoffman of Namibia in 18th place.
