A policeman attached to Nyamirambo police station yesterday died when his colleague accidentally shot him.
It is said that the victim, Patrick Nizeyimana, died instantly after Gildas Ngaruyingabo, released a bullet accidentally while cocking a gun at the station yesterday at around noon.
When contacted, police spokesperson, Supt Eric Kayiranga confirmed the incident, saying the culprit would be charged with manslaughter.
“The incident happened when the deceased was handing over the gun to his colleague who was supposed to work at night,” said Kayiranga.
He continued that when Ngaruyingabo was checking the gun, he accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting his colleague in the process.
Kayiranga, however, said that there was no foul play since the duo had worked together peacefully as police constables.
Nizeyimana was one of the police cadets who had completed his police training course last year.
