I was quite bemused by the interview that your esteemed publications had with the Anglican Archbishop elect, Onesphore Rwaje. He was busy vowing to take a firm stand against homosexuality. Well, I can understand why he would do that, but in the wider scheme of things, homosexuality and same-sex marriage is the least of most Rwandan Anglicans worries.
We have issues like poverty, disease, corruption and education to deal with as a Rwandan populace and I would expect our church leaders to concentrate on these issues.
Leave the culture wars to those in the West who don’t have our basic issues to deal with. Anyway, I don’t understand why the ‘gay issue’ is such an issue in the Church.
The fact of the matter is that each and every sin is equal in God’s eyes, if we are to believe the Bible, so instead of harking on and on about homosexuality, maybe it would be better if the Church attempted to tackle the sins that cause the most trouble in the world, greed, cruelty and injustice.
