APRED Ndera claimed this year’s national schools’ rugby tournament after defeating Groupe Scolaire Remera Rukomo in Saturday’s final.
After getting past the round-robin phase, Apred Ndera thrashed Ecole Technique de Mukingi 26-7 to set up a final clash with Groupe Scolaire Remera Rukomo who had edged ousted Lycee de Ruhango 6-5 in the other semi-final.
In the final, Ndera lived up to the billing and pre-tournament hype as they defeated Remera Rukomo 15-10. The side will now represent Rwanda in the Independent schools’ rugby tournament slated for October 9-10 in Uganda.
In the girls’ category, it was a Remera Rukomo affair as the school’s team B thumped team A 12-0. The other girls’ team included Lions de Fer and Group Scolaire Shyongwe.
The one-day tournament, organised by the local rugby federation and sponsored by Inyange industries attracted eight schools in the boys’ fray. Pool A had Groupe Scolaire Shyongwe, Lycee de Ruhango, Apec Remera Rukumo and Apred Ndera while Groupe Scolaire Remera Rukomo, Ecole Technique de Mukingi, ETO Gitarama and Iburinga Secondary School made up Pool B.
