KIGALI - Another senior member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) has crossed over and joined the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF). Ambassador James Kimonyo, Rwanda’s envoy to the United States, revealed that he had decided to join the RPF because of “its superior programs”.

“The political vision of the PSD is good, but I decided to join the RPF because of its performance and mature politics,” said Kimonyo.

In the recent presidential elections, the RPF’s candidate, Paul Kagame, overwhelmingly beat the other candidates with over 93% of the votes. His closest challenger, PSD’s Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, managed to garner slightly over 5%.

“I came to realise that the RPF is difficult to defeat and it has the support of the majority of the population. The results of the recent elections are testimony to the fact,” noted the Ambassador.

Kimonyo is the latest senior PSD official to cross over to the RPF. He follows in the footsteps of Aaron Makuba, a former state minister and Member of Parliament.

Prior to his current appointment, James Kimonyo served as Rwanda’s Ambassador to South Africa and Governor of the former Kibungo Prefecture, now part of the Eastern Province.
