It will be a battle of two unbeaten teams when IPRC-South hosts reigning champions Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in the national basketball league on Saturday in Huye.

IPRC-South will be looking to prolong the unbeaten run to 3 this season while REG, also unbeaten, are seeking to make it two wins out of two.

Last season, REG defeated IPRC-South home and away and that is what Cyrille Kalima and his team will be hoping to replicate.

However, Charles Mushumba’s team has other ideas, “The game against REG is a good test, a test to our readiness as genuine contenders for the league title. We have prepared and everyone is fit for the game. If we can avoid cheap mistakes, then we have a chance to win.”

Team captain Bienvenu Niyonsaba and Fabrice Rukundo will be among players to watch in IPRC- South while Rwanda internationals Kami Kabange, Ally Kazingufu Kubwimana and Bienvenu Ngandu will lead REG’s charge for an away win.

In a separate interview, REG head coach Kalima said,” I have cautioned my players to be very careful, it is never easy against IPRC-South, especially at their place, nonetheless, our aim is to win and I am confident we will, if we execute well our game-plan.”

REG started their title defence with victory over former champions APR last Friday while IPRC-South started the new season with a narrow 64-59 win over Espoir a fortnight ago before demolishing Rusizi 102-73 last weekend.

After today, REG will be back in action on Sunday for their game of the season, playing away to Rusizi basketball club in Rusizi.
