It seems as if the anti-apartheid heroes are slowly fading away like the proverbial old soldier. Nelson Mandela is a frail 92 years of age and now former Archbishop of Cape Town Desmond Tutu has revealed that he’s retiring.
I feel as if we are losing statesmen right, left and centre. I think it is about time that we had new statesmen in Africa ready to pick up the mantle. I believe that here, in Rwanda, we have someone who can do that.
Watching Madiba at the closing ceremony with his wife, and Desmond Tutu at the opening ceremony of the World Cup was one of the most poignant moments I’ve ever witnessed.
