MUHANGA - The Social Democratic Party (PSD), yesterday, launched its campaigns for the Presidential elections with its flag bearer, Dr .Jean Damascene Ntawukulilyayo, promising to work for unity, fight injustice and corruption, promote development and social transformation.

The party agenda was officially unveiled by party chairman, Dr. Vincent Biruta, at Gitarama Stadium, where he also presented Dr. Ntawukulilyayo, as the party’s candidate for the top office.

Dr. Biruta urged Rwandans to vote for the PSD candidate so as to maintain the party’s 19 years old legacy of democracy, solidarity and development.

“Rwandans should vote for the party because it has played a major role in the development of the country. This should be done within a peaceful environment and with respect of others’ rights and political views,” Biruta said.

Ntawukulilyayo was received amidst cheers and chanting from top party members and party faithful from various districts in the Southern and Northern Provinces and Kigali City.

He outlined social transformation, economic development, peace building, security, unity and reconciliation and fighting genocide ideology among their priorities.

“If voted into power, the party will base its leadership on five pillars, which include: good politics and democratic governance, improved economy and investment, social welfare transformation, increase regional integration and foreign affairs relations, unity, reconciliation and fighting the Genocide ideology.”

Ntawukulilyayo added that the party will transform justice, agricultural and livestock, education, business; and environmental protection for sustainable development.

The party, he added, will also consider training and capacity building among workers while embracing power sharing amongst political parties in key leadership posts.

He promised to double the salaries of teachers, give women a 50/50 percentage participation in leadership roles, build more schools and improve the ICT standards, road and water networks and other infrastructure.
