RWAMAGANA - The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) on Monday donated a total of 20,000 text books valued at Rwf760 million to several private and public educational institutions in the Eastern Province.

Samuel Ndayambaje, an ADRA official, who handed over the arts, science and language text books, to schools’ representatives, said the donation was part of efforts to achieve the country’s education goals.

“Over the last few years, ADRA/Rwanda with the support of a US -based non-governmental organisation and ADRA/International has been donating text books to institutions in the country. What we are witnessing today is one of such donations,” he said.

Provincial Governor, Dr. Ephraim Kabaija, thanked ADRA for the kind gesture, noting that without books education cannot thrive.

“It is vital that all schools get reference books for teachers and learners. I request you as teachers to guard and make good use of these valuable books,” he said.

Dr. Eugene Ndabaga, the Vice Rector Academics at Mutara Polytechnic, stressed the importance of libraries in schools.
He advised rural secondary schools to device means of getting book shelves for proper storage.

“It is imperative that all schools whether remote or poor possess books. Its incumbent upon head teachers to equip their schools with text books despite the challenges,” he said.

The ceremony attracted all mayors and head teachers from all districts in the province.
