Cultural values key for dev’t – new study

A study commissioned by Unity Club in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion has revealed that, emphasis on cultural values is a major contributor to social harmony and national development.

A study commissioned by Unity Club in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion has revealed that, emphasis on cultural values is a major contributor to social harmony and national development.

The preliminary findings of the study were tabled Friday, at a function officiated by the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr. Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya.

The Minister said that, cultural values have proved to be a key pillar in the development of the nation.

“National development should be based on the culture of the country; in the course of development, culture dictates how to behave, how to live with others, and how to embrace others’ behavior,” Mujawamariya.said. 

 “We need to leave our children with a cultured country and we can only do so by educating them about the cultural values.”

Unity Club commissioned the study under the framework of analyzing the values of the Rwandan culture in order to highlight major values that should always be underlined in the socio-development of the nation.

The study aimed at looking at possible ways of restricting cultural education; promote harmonious coexistence among the Rwandans culture and encouraging nationals to be patriotic.

It  also aimed at analyzing the root causes of negative attitude among some Rwandans as well as looking at possible ways using culture for sustainable development among others.

The study was conducted by Venacie Mukarugemwa who recommended that; “there is need for a massive social mobilization on cultural values.”

Unity Club is a social network that brings together former and current country leaders and their spouses.
