KIGALI - The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda has welcomed the arrest of a suspected murderer of the unregistered party’s vice president who was, this week, killed in the Southern Province.
Police arrested Thomas Ntivuguruzwa as a prime suspect in connection to the murder of Andre Kagwa Rwisereka.
A statement signed by the party president Frank Habineza reads in part: ‘The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda welcomes the Police’s efforts which have led to the arrest of the suspected murderer of our first vice president Rwisekera who was found dead on July 14.’
‘This is a good step taken in these investigations; we had shared some of those details with the National Police and the Army,’ it adds.
Ntivuguruzwa, who is said to be the last person who met and talked with the deceased, was arrested after Police found out that he faked his identity at the victim’s lodge, Sombrero. in Huye District – in the region where Rwisereka’s body was recovered.
Police Spokesman Eric Kayiranga said: “Ntivuguruzwa spent the night at Sombrero and when he was requested to sign in the guest book, he claimed he was too drunk to write.
The next morning, he did not write his real name, which makes him the prime suspect,” said Kayiranga.
Witnesses told Police that before he was murdered, he shared drinks with Ntivuguruzwa until late in the night.
