DESPITE Amavubi’s qualification to next year’s CHAN finals in Sudan, Rwanda dropped six places to 113th on the current Fifa rankings released yesterday in Zurich, Switzerland.
Rwanda, which is also ranked 29th on the continent, beat Tanzania 2-1 on aggregates to reach the finals of the African Nations Championship.
Tanzania is ranked 112th in the world and 28th in Africa.
Uganda jumped three places to 70th position and 13th in Africa to top the Cecafa region.
Kenya and Sudan came in 115th and 121st positions while Burundi is 141st, Ethiopia 146th, Eritrea 158th, Somalia 173rd and Djibouti 191st position.
Reigning African Champions Egypt lead the African chart but are also ranked 9th in the world. Ghana, who put in a spirited display in the just ended 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa when they reached the quarter-finals, climbed nine places to 23rd.
Overall, World Cup winners Spain have replaced Brazil as the top-ranked side while losing finalists the Netherlands move into second place with Brazil, hosts of the 2014 World Cup rounding off the top three slots.
England moved up one place into seventh, despite their poor showing in South Africa.
Fabio Capello’s side were knocked out of the tournament in the last 16 after a 4-1 defeat by Germany, who have gone up two positions to fourth.
France and Italy endured miserable World Cup campaigns with both European sides failing to qualify from the group stages.
Their poor showings have been reflected in the latest rankings with 1998 world champions France slipping 12 places to 21st and 2006 world champions Italy falling six places to 11th.
South American side Uruguay, the surprise package at the World Cup have risen to sixth, their highest position since the world ranking system was introduced.
