I read, with interest, yesterday’s article about the donation of treated mosquito nets to several families in Rwamagana District by the Ministry of Health. They always say that prevention is better than cure, and no where is this more apparent than in cases of malaria.
This disease kills hundreds every year but to cut the numbers down drastically, all one needs to do is sleep in a mosquito net. Amazingly enough even people who should know better refuse to use them, saying silly things like “I can’t breathe properly”, or “the nets make me hot”.
As someone who suffered the ravages of full blown malaria, I can say with all certainty that nothing is worth the pain. I would rather get ‘hot’ rather than go through the fever I had all those years back. I urge everyone to use the nets, they are a life saver.
