Rwanda face Madagascar in FIBA U-16 AfroBasket

Rwanda U16 boys’ team will lock horns with Madagascar today in their final game at this year’s FIBA U16 African Championships taking place in Vacoas-Phoenix, Mauritius with each team seeking to win to finish in fifth place.

Rwanda U16 boys’ team will lock horns with Madagascar today in their final game at this year’s FIBA U16 African Championships taking place in Vacoas-Phoenix, Mauritius with each team seeking to win to finish in fifth place.

 

It will be the third meeting between the two teams after they had met twice during the group stage games in Group B.

Rwanda lost the first game 87-95 but managed to bounce back in the return leg to win 73-70 – Madagascar went on to finish third and Rwanda fourth, both tied on eight points same as Algeria, who finished second, behind group leader and defending champions, Egypt.

In the 5-8 classification games played on Friday, Moise Mutokambali’s side defeated Mozambique 67-33, thanks to Thierry Nkundwa’s 22 points. On the other hand, Madagascar thrashed hosts Mauritius 125-13.

Rwanda will be looking to improve from their previous performance in 2015 where they finished in the ninth place.

By press time, the semi-finals pitting Egypt and Tunisia plus Mali against Algeria were due to be played. The final and third place playoffs are scheduled for today.
