Editor, RE: “Why large crowds instil a climate of fear” (The New Times, July 17). Lonzen is always on cue. One word: neoliberalism – an economic concept that directly shapes and drives the politics of the day. Pretty much all the world’s present day ills boil down to this simple concept, Africa being no exception. Luckily, the Western natives – core proponents of neoliberalism – are beginning to disown their own baby. For as Nietzsche aptly put it, “If you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes into you.” The neoliberal Minotaur has begun cannibalising its own. Ggwanga Mujjye
