A lost opportunity for Africa

So, what was the fuse all about? I hear this was Africa’s chance to win the Fifa World Cup. That it was long overdue for Africa to stage the world’s biggest football spectacle.

So, what was the fuse all about? I hear this was Africa’s chance to win the Fifa World Cup. That it was long overdue for Africa to stage the world’s biggest football spectacle.

Some even went as far as talking of the 2010 tournament soil being the best ever! I wish we knew what we were talking about.

It’s a big shame that even with a record six teams representing Africa, only one managed to reach the second round in a tournament which promised a lot but delivered so little in terms of showcasing how far Africans have come in world football.

However, the disappointment of the 2010 World Cup should also serve as a remind for African teams that they need to work a lot more on their game if they’re to be able to sit on the same dinning table as the rest of the world.

Cameroon, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Algeria should be even more ashamed of themselves than anyone else as they flattered to deceive at a time when all eyes were on them to make Africa proud.

For South Africa, very few, if any can fault them for anything as they did more than many expected from them, and as for Ghana, Africa’s only remaining hope, the weight of the entire continent on their shoulders could be their biggest adversary than the match against USA this afternoon.
