US NGO trains Congolese refugees in vocational skills

GICUMBI - The American Refugee Committee (ARC) is training Congolese refugees at Gihembe refugee camp, in various vocational skills. Addressing refugees during World Refugee Day last Sunday, ARC country director Barry Whiler, said the training was aimed at enabling refugees undertake income generating projects.

GICUMBI - The American Refugee Committee (ARC) is training Congolese refugees at Gihembe refugee camp, in various vocational skills.

Addressing refugees during World Refugee Day last Sunday, ARC country director Barry Whiler, said the training was aimed at enabling refugees undertake income generating projects.

“In addition to the provision of social amenities to refugees, ARC will continue carrying out vocational training to enable refugees acquire technical skills useful for their future self sustenance,” said Barry.

According to ARC camp manager, Jennifer Nantale, the vocational courses being offered include tailoring, mechanics and construction works.

“We plan to offer carpentry and catering courses next year,” said Nantale.  ARC also provides clean water to the refugees.
