The first race of the season is dubbed ‘Memorial Lambert Byemayire’ scheduled for this Saturday—it will start from Kigali and head to Huye in the Southern Province where riders will also do a circuit around Huye town.
The race is a tribute to the former Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) vice president Byemayire, who passed away shortly after the conclusion of 2016 Tour du Rwanda.
“We couldn’t start this year’s edition without first remembering our former vice president Byemayire, whom we worked with for a long time in promoting cycling and we must honor his great work,” said FERWACY president Aimable Bayingana in a press conference on Tuesday.
A total of seven clubs will participate in this year’s edition that will comprise of four categories namely, Men Elite, U23 and juniors as well as the women category.
The seven clubs include; Les Amis Sportif de Rwamagana, Club Benediction de Rubavu, Cine Elmay, Muhazi Cycling Generation, Fly Cycling Club, Cycling Club for All and Rwanda Eagles Cycling Team.
