As the Rwanda National Police, yesterday, celebrated a decade of existence, all Rwandans should acknowledge and celebrate what the force has achieved in ten years.
The police, has not only remarkably executed its mandate, but has also gone an extra mile to engage in activities that are beneficial to the social development of the people.
In addition, to their exemplary performance at home, the Rwanda National Police has distinguished itself through the services it has carried out around the world.
Having started from scratch, through the merging of services from three totally different institutions, ten years down the road, it is evident that the Police is a fully fledged professional force, and this is an achievement that Rwandans should be proud of.
The National Police was created through the harmonization of activities of Gendermerie which was under the Defence Ministry, the judicial police under the Justice Ministry and communal police under Local Government.
The commitment of our force has been further witnessed in the series of community development activities, on which they embarked a few weeks to the celebrations, ranging from providing healthcare to environmental protection.
Every Rwandan should therefore be duty-bound to ensure that the police force continues this trend of professionalizing itself because it is in the interest of every citizen at the end of the day.
We should also participate massively in initiatives like community policing to ensure that the force goes beyond its original core mission of ensuring safety and continue to provide socially beneficial services on which they have embarked.
