After losing to Egypt on Tuesday at the ongoing FIBA-Africa Zone V Championships, Rwanda take on South Sudan today in their final Group A in game which they need to progress to the semi-finals.

Moise Mutokambali’s side made started to their campaign winning the opening game against Kenya 71-66 on Monday but lost against hosts and defending champions Egypt 83-71 which makes today’s game against a tricky South Sudan, a must win.

Egypt, who had also won their opener against South Sudan 87-76 on Sunday, took the control of the game on Tuesday taking the first quarter 25-11 and the second 20-14 hence going into the half time break leading 45-25.

Rwanda upped their and claimed the third quarter 12-18 but they couldn’t maintain the momentum as they lost fourth quarter 26-28, which gave Egypt a 83-71 win and also became the first team into the last four with a game to spare against Kenya, which will be played on Wednesday night, at 9:15pm.

Espoir basketball club center Olivier Shyaka finished with a team high 22 points for Rwanda while Rwanda Energy Group point guard, Ali Kazingufu contributed nine points. Egypt’s Amr Sherif Mohamed Abdelhalim drooped a game high 24 points.

With South Sudan defeating Kenya 68-66 in the other Group A game, their meeting with Rwanda provides a mouth-watering prospect as each side know only a win is good to seal a semi-final berth.
