During the President’s ongoing tour of the Western Province, he advised the residents to select good leaders or else risk losing the achievements they have attained over the last sixteen years. As we usher into the election period, it is imperative that we make the right choices.

The development of the country and the improvement of the lives of the Rwandan people should be the priority of the leaders of today. Over the last couple of years, many local leaders, especially Mayors have lost their jobs and that just shows that there is no room for complacency.

The qualities of a good leader cannot be compromised. The reason why someone is entrusted with leadership responsibilities is because they are considered to have the necessary qualities.  Importantly, good leaders must be accountable to the people they serve.

On various occasions, during the President’s countrywide visits, he has had to intervene in issues that could have been, otherwise, resolved by the local leaders.

As years go by, Rwandans have become more educated and aware of what to expect of their leaders. And, with the increased access to information through advancement in technology and continued sensitization, the people know their rights and what is best for them. Gone are the days when Rwandans followed blindly, a bad leadership, that led to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
